6 Troubleshooting

Camera problems

If	Try one or more of the following
Camera does not turn on.	Install new batteries (Loading the battery). Charge rechargeable batteries.
Camera does not turn off.	Remove the battery, then reinsert or replace it. If the camera still does not function, visit www.kodak.com/go/z1275support, www.kodak.com/go/z1285support and select Interactive Troubleshooting & Repairs.
Pictures remaining number does not decrease after taking a picture.	The camera is operating normally. Continue taking pictures.
Short battery life with Kodak Ni-MH rechargeable digital camera batteries.	Wipe the contacts with a clean, dry cloth (Care and maintenance) before loading batteries in the camera. Limit activities that deplete battery power: reviewing pictures/videos and excessive use of the flash. Use the Battery Refresh feature on your camera dock, printer dock, or battery charger (if equipped).
Stored pictures are corrupted.	Retake pictures. Do not remove card while the Ready light is blinking. Keep rechargeable batteries charged. Transfer the pictures to the computer (Transferring pictures with the USB cable), then format the card or internal memory ( ). Caution: Formatting a card deletes all pictures and videos, including protected files.
In Review mode, you do not see a picture (or the expected picture) on the LCD screen.	Check the image storage location setting ( ).
In Review mode, a blue or black screen is displayed instead of a picture.	Transfer the picture to the computer (Transferring pictures with the USB cable), then format the card or internal memory ( ). Caution: Formatting a card deletes all pictures and videos, including protected files.
Shutter button does not work.	Turn on the camera (Turning on the camera). Wait until the Ready light stops blinking red before attempting to take another picture. Transfer pictures to the computer (Transferring pictures with the USB cable), delete pictures from the camera (Deleting pictures/videos), switch image storage locations ( ), or insert a card with available memory (Using an optional SD/SDHC or MMC card).
Slide show does not run on external video device.	Adjust the camera Video Out setting (NTSC or PAL, ). See the external device's user's guide.
Picture is too light.	Move so there is at least 2 ft (0.6 m) between the camera and the subject. Decrease Exposure Compensation (Using exposure compensation to adjust picture brightness).
Picture is not clear.	Clean the lens (Care and maintenance). Make sure your camera is not in Close-up mode. Move so there is at least 2 ft (0.6 m) between the camera and the subject. Place the camera on a flat, steady surface or use a tripod.
Picture is too dark.	Turn on the flash (Using the flash ). Move so there is no more than 11.8 ft (3.6 m) in wide angle and 6.9 ft (2.1 m) in telephoto between the camera and the subject. Use Fill flash (Using the flash ) or change your position so light is not behind the subject. Increase Exposure Compensation (Using exposure compensation to adjust picture brightness).
Camera does not recognize SD/SDHC or MMC card.	Purchase a certified SD/SDHC or MMC card. Reformat the card ( ). Caution: Formatting a card deletes all pictures and videos, including protected files. Insert a card into the slot, then push to seat (Using an optional SD/SDHC or MMC card).
Camera freezes up when a card is inserted or removed.	Turn the camera off, then back on. Make sure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing a card.
Memory card full.	Insert a new card (Using an optional SD/SDHC or MMC card), transfer pictures to the computer (Transferring pictures with the USB cable), or delete pictures (Deleting pictures/videos).
Memory card and internal memory full.	Transfer pictures to the computer (Transferring pictures with the USB cable), then format the card or internal memory ( ). Caution: Formatting a card deletes all pictures and videos, including protected files.

Camera ready light status

If	Try one or more of the following
Ready light does not turn on and the camera does not work.	Turn on the camera (Turning on the camera). Install new batteries (Loading the battery) or charge rechargeable batteries. Turn camera off, then back on.
Ready light blinks green.	Camera is operating normally.
Ready light blinks amber.	Wait. Resume picture taking when the light stops blinking and turns green.
Ready light blinks red and camera turns off.	Install new batteries (Loading the battery) or charge rechargeable batteries.
Ready light glows steady red.	Transfer pictures to the computer (Transferring pictures with the USB cable), delete pictures from the camera (Deleting pictures/videos), switch image storage locations ( ), or insert a card with available memory (Using an optional SD/SDHC or MMC card). Wait. Resume picture taking when the light turns green. Change the image storage location to internal memory ( ), or use a different card.
Ready light is off or glows steady green.	Camera is operating normally.

Camera/computer communications

If	Try one or more of the following
The computer does not communicate with the camera.	Turn on the camera (Turning on the camera). Install new batteries (Loading the battery) or charge rechargeable batteries. Connect cable to camera and computer port (Transferring pictures with the USB cable). Install the software (Installing the software). Disconnect the USB cable. Close all open applications. Re-install the software (Installing the software). Disconnect camera from the computer. Close all software applications, reconnect camera.
Cannot transfer pictures. (The Add New Hardware Wizard cannot locate drivers.)	Disconnect USB cable. (If using camera dock or printer dock, disconnect cable and remove camera from dock). Close all open applications. Re-install the software (Installing the software). Disconnect the USB cable. Close all open applications. Re-install the software (Installing the software).

Try one or more of the following

The computer does not communicate with the camera.

Turn on the camera (Turning on the camera).
Install new batteries (Loading the battery) or charge rechargeable batteries.
Connect cable to camera and computer port (Transferring pictures with the USB cable).
Install the software (Installing the software).
Disconnect the USB cable. Close all open applications. Re-install the software (Installing the software).
Disconnect camera from the computer. Close all software applications, reconnect camera.

Cannot transfer pictures.

(The Add New Hardware Wizard cannot locate drivers.)

Disconnect USB cable. (If using camera dock or printer dock, disconnect cable and remove camera from dock). Close all open applications. Re-install the software (Installing the software).
Disconnect the USB cable. Close all open applications. Re-install the software (Installing the software).

LCD messages

If	Try one or more of the following
No images to display	Change image storage location setting ( ).
Memory card requires formatting	Insert a new card (Using an optional SD/SDHC or MMC card) or format the card ( ). Caution: Formatting a card deletes all pictures and videos, including protected files.
Memory card cannot be read (Please format memory card or insert another card)
Only one USB connection allowed. Disconnect cable or rem. (remove) camera from dock.	Unplug the USB cable from the camera.
Internal memory requires formatting	Format the internal memory ( ). Caution: Formatting deletes all pictures and videos, including protected files. (Formatting internal memory also deletes email addresses, album names, and Favorites. To restore them, see the Kodak EasyShare software Help.)
Internal memory cannot be read (Please format internal memory)
No memory card (Files not copied)	Insert a card (Using an optional SD/SDHC or MMC card).
Not enough space to copy files (Files not copied)	Delete pictures from the image storage location you are copying to (Deleting pictures/videos), or insert a new card (Using an optional SD/SDHC or MMC card).
Memory card is locked (Insert new memory card)	Insert a new card (Using an optional SD/SDHC or MMC card), move the switch on the card to unlock the card, or change the image storage location to internal memory ( ).
Read-only memory card. Remove write protection to capture or write to card.
Memory card is unusable (Insert new memory card)	Insert a new card (Using an optional SD/SDHC or MMC card) or format the card ( ). Caution: Formatting a card deletes all pictures and videos, including protected files.
No address book on camera (Connect with computer to import address book)	Create and copy address book from computer. See the Kodak EasyShare software Help.
No album names on camera (Connect with computer to import album names)	Create and copy album names from computer. See the Kodak EasyShare software Help.
High camera temperature. (Camera will be turned off.)	Leave the camera off for ten minutes, then turn it back on. If the message reappears, visit www.kodak.com/go/z1275support, www.kodak.com/go/z1285support and select Interactive Troubleshooting & Repairs.
Can only mark image with 32 album names. Only the first 32 album names will be saved.	Delete one or more album names associated with the image (Tagging pictures/videos for albums).
Unrecognized file format	Transfer the picture to the computer (Transferring pictures with the USB cable), or delete it (Deleting pictures/videos).
