2 Taking pictures/videos

Using optical zoom

Use optical zoom to get up to 12X closer to your subject before taking pictures/videos.


  1. Use the LCD to frame your subject. For focus distances, see Camera specifications.

  2. Press Telephoto (T) to zoom in. Press Wide Angle (W) to zoom out.

  3. Take the picture/video.

NOTE: To get a focused picture every time, remember:
  • Use the auto focus framing marks, Taking a picture.

  • As you zoom in, move away from your subject.

    Auto

    24 in. (60 cm)–infinity @ wide

    3.9 ft (1.2m)–infinity @ telephoto

    Macro

    NOTE: For Focus modes, see Using focus modes.

    4.7–23.7 in. (12–60 cm) @ wide

    2–4.3 ft (0.6–1.3m) @ telephoto


Use digital zoom to get up to 5X beyond optical zoom while taking pictures.

NOTE: You may notice decreased image quality when using digital zoom. The slider on the zoom indicator turns red when the picture quality reaches the limit for an acceptable 4 x 6-in. (10 x 15 cm) print.
