Pictures play from the frame's internal memory when no card or USB device is inserted.

Pictures play from a memory card or USB device when one is inserted in the frame.

NOTE:

Your frame may contain pre-loaded sample pictures, which play only when there are no other pictures loaded (from a memory card, USB device, or internal memory). Sample pictures may not be deleted.
