5 Taking pictures and videos: more tips and tricks

Using the self-timer

Use the Self-Timer to create a timed delay between the time you press the Shutter button and the time the picture or video is taken.

  1. In Capture , touch the Self-Timer icon, .

  2. Select an increment for the self-timer duration (up to 60 seconds).

    For videos, set the video duration:

    Choose 5, 15, or 30 seconds; or choose Max— video records as long as there is room on the card or internal memory, or until you press the Shutter button.

  3. Open the touchscreen display and position it so that the screen faces the same direction as the lens.



  4. Place the camera on a flat surface or tripod and compose the scene.

  5. Press the Shutter button halfway and hold to set the exposure and focus, then press completely down . Move into the scene.

    A countdown appears on the screen before the picture or video is taken.

    The Self-Timer setting turns off after you take the picture or video or if you change capture modes. Video recording stops when the duration is reached or there is no storage space remaining.

  • To cancel the Self-Timer during countdown or during video recording, press the Shutter button.
