Using the flash
Use the flash when you take pictures at night, indoors, or outdoors in heavy shadows.

Turning the flash on

When the lighting conditions require it (in a dark environment or the subject is "backlit", for example). |

Never. Use to deactivate the flash even in a dark environment. Hold the camera steady. |
Red-eye |
Once so the subject's eyes become accustomed to the flash, then fires again when the picture is taken. |
Fill |
Every time you take a picture, regardless of the lighting conditions. Use to soften the shadow on a face, for example. |
Slow Sync Red-eye |
Activates red-eye mode at slow shutter speed.Taking pictures of people with night backgrounds. Hold the camera steady. |
