Troubleshooting - Camera

MMC/SD Card
Problem Cause Solution

The camera does not recognize an MMC/SD card.

The MMC/SD card may not be certified.

Purchase a certified MMC/SD card (Inserting an Optional MMC/SD Card).

The MMC/SD card may be corrupt.

Reformat the MMC/SD card (Formatting Camera Memory or MMC/SD Card). Caution: Formatting erases all pictures from the card.

No MMC/SD card is inserted in camera or it is not inserted correctly.

Insert an MMC/SD card (Inserting an Optional MMC/SD Card).

Camera freezes up when an MMC/SD card is inserted or removed.

Camera detected an error when the MMC/SD card was inserted or removed.

Turn the camera off, then back on. Make sure the camera is off when inserting or removing an MMC/SD card.

Access error

The SD card is locked.

Slide the SD card lock to the Unlocked position.

Cannot copy pictures from MMC/SD card to internal memory.

Pictures cannot be copied from a card to internal memory.

Camera Communications
Problem Cause Solution

The computer cannot communicate with the camera.

There is a problem with the configuration of the USB port on your computer.

Go to the online help for KODAK Camera Connection Software (KODAK Camera Connection Software). See Getting Started: Connect the Camera to Your Computer.

Or, go to http://www.kodak.com and click Service and Support.

Camera power is off.

Turn the camera on (Turning the Camera On and Off).

Some Advanced Power Management utilities on laptops can turn off ports to save battery life.

See the Power Management section of your laptop user's guide to disable this feature.

USB cable is not securely connected.

Reconnect cable to camera and computer ports (Before You Transfer Pictures).

Software is not installed.

Install the software (MACINTOSH OS X Notice).

There are too many applications running on your computer.

Disconnect your camera from the computer. Close all software applications, reconnect your camera and try again.

The Battery Monitor or similar software runs constantly.

Close that software before starting the KODAK Software.

Camera
Problem Cause Solution

Shutter button does not work.

Camera is not turned on.

Turn the camera on (Turning the Camera On and Off).

The camera is processing a picture, the ready light is blinking.

Wait until the light stops blinking, then take another picture.

The MMC/SD card or internal memory is full.

Transfer pictures to your computer (Before You Transfer Pictures), delete pictures from the camera (Deleting Pictures), or insert a card with available memory.

Part of the picture is missing.

Something was blocking the lens when the picture was taken.

Keep hands, fingers, or other objects away from the lens when taking pictures.

Your eye or the picture was not centered correctly in the viewfinder.

Leave space around subject when centering picture in viewfinder.

Picture is too dark.

Flash is not on or did not function.

Turn the flash on(Using the Flash).

The subject is too far away for the flash to have an effect.

Move so there is less than 7.9 feet (2.4 m) between camera and subject.

The subject is in front of a bright light (backlit).

Change your position so the light is not behind the subject.

Camera does not turn on.

Battery is exhausted or not properly installed.

Replace or reinstall the batteries (Loading the Battery).

Picture is too light.

The flash is not needed.

Change to Auto flash (Using the Flash).

The subject was too close when the flash was used.

Move so there is at least 1.6 feet (0.5 m) between the camera and the subject.

The light sensor is covered.

Hold the camera so your hands or other objects do not cover the light sensor.

Stored pictures are damaged.

The MMC/SD card was removed when the ready light was blinking.

Turn the camera off. Make sure the MMC/SD card access light is not blinking before removing the card.

Pictures remaining number does not decrease after taking a picture.

Picture does not take up sufficient space to decrease the picture remaining number.

The camera is operating normally. Continue taking pictures.

Camera freezes up when an MMC/SD card is inserted or removed.

Camera was not turned off before inserting or removing MMC/SD card.

Turn the camera off, then back on. Make sure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing an MMC/SD card.

Picture is not clear.

The lens is dirty.

Clean the lens (Tips, Safety, Maintenance).

Subject too close when taking picture.

Move so there is at least 2.5 feet (0.8 m) between the camera and the subject.

Macro mode is active and subject is too far away.

Change setting (Setting Macro) or move closer to subject.

Subject or the camera moved while the picture was taken.

Hold the camera steady or use a tripod while taking the picture.

Not enough light

Turn on the flash or use a tripod.

The subject is too far away for the flash to be effective.

Move so there is no more than 7.9 feet (2.4 m) between the camera and the subject.

Slide show does not run on external video device.

Video Out setting is incorrect.

Adjust the camera Video Out setting (NTSC or PAL, Setting Video Out).

External device is set incorrectly.

Refer to the external device's user's guide.

Camera Ready Light
Problem Cause Solution

Ready light does not turn on and the camera does not work.

Camera is not turned on.

Turn the camera on (Turning the Camera On and Off).

Batteries are exhausted.

Replace the batteries (Loading the Battery) or recharge the Battery Pack.

Ready light blinks red.

Batteries are low.

Replace the batteries (Loading the Battery) or recharge the Battery Pack.

Ready light glows steady red.

Camera's internal memory or MMC/SD card is full.

Transfer pictures to your computer (Before You Transfer Pictures), delete pictures from the camera (Deleting Pictures), or insert a card with available memory.

Ready light blinks green.

Picture is being processed and saved to the camera.

Wait. Resume picture taking when the light stops blinking.

Auto Exposure is not locked.

Release the shutter button and recompose the picture.

Ready light alternates orange and green.

Flash is not charged.

Wait. Resume picture taking when the light stops blinking and glows green.

LCD Messages
Message Cause Solution

ACCESS ERROR ON MEMORY CARD. CARD REQUIRES FORMATTING.

The MMC/SD card is corrupted or formatted for another camera.

Format or replace the MMC/SD card (Formatting Camera Memory or MMC/SD Card).

ACCESS ERROR. CARD IS SET TO "READ ONLY."

The SD card is locked.

Slide the SD card lock to the Unlocked position.

ACCESS ERROR IN INTERNAL MEMORY. MEMORY REQUIRES FORMATTING

The camera internal memory is corrupted.

Format the internal memory (Formatting Camera Memory or MMC/SD Card).

MEMORY CARD IS FULL. CANNOT COPY PICTURES.

There is not enough space on the MMC/SD card.

Delete pictures (Deleting Pictures), or insert a new MMC/SD card (Inserting an Optional MMC/SD Card).

INTERNAL MEMORY IS FULL

There is no more space on the camera internal memory.

Delete pictures from the internal memory (Deleting Pictures).
