Camera/Computer Communications

Problem Cause Solution

The computer cannot communicate with the camera.

(For communication problems with a camera dock 6000, see Troubleshooting—Camera Dock 6000.)

There is a problem with the configuration of the USB port on the computer.

Camera power is off.

Turn on the camera (Turning On the Camera).

Battery is not charged.

Recharge the battery (Charging the Battery).

Use a Kodak: 5-Volt AC adapter, EasyShare camera dock 6000, or EasyShare printer dock 6000 to transfer pictures.

Some Advanced Power Management utilities on laptops turn off ports to save battery life.

See the Power Management section of the laptop user's guide to disable this feature.

USB cable is not securely connected.

Connect cable to camera and computer port (Transferring Pictures With the USB Cable).

The computer cannot communicate with the camera.

Software is not installed.

Install the software (Install the Software).

Software is installed incorrectly.

Disconnect the USB cable. Close all open applications. Uninstall, then re-install the software (Install the Software). To uninstall, go to Start/Settings/ Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs.

Too many applications are running on the computer.

Disconnect camera from the computer. Close all software applications, reconnect camera.

Cannot transfer pictures.

(The Add New Hardware Wizard cannot locate drivers.)

Software is not installed.

Disconnect USB cable. (If using camera dock, disconnect cable and remove camera from dock). Install EasyShare software (Install the Software).

Software is installed incorrectly.

Disconnect the USB cable. Close all open applications. Uninstall, then re-install the software (Install the Software). To uninstall, go to Start/Settings/ Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs.

USB cable was connected during software installation. Camera is listed as an unknown device (PC only).

Delete camera from Device Manager: Right-click on My Computer, go to Properties/Hardware/Device Manager/Other Devices/ (delete this entry: ?Kodak ES camera)
