4 Doing more with your camera

Customizing your camera

Use Setup to customize your camera settings.

  1. In any mode, press the Menu button.

  2. Press to highlight Setup , then press the OK button.

  3. Press to highlight the setting you wish to change, then press the OK button.

  4. Choose an option, then press the OK button.

  5. Press the Menu button to exit.

Setting Icon Options

Return to previous menu.

LCD Brightness

Adjust the brightness of the LCD screen.

Normal (default)

High

Capture Frame Grid

Use the frame grid to compose a picture. The grid divides the LCD screen into thirds—vertically and horizontally. It's helpful if you want to balance a picture between water, earth, and sky.

Image Stabilizer

The optical image stabilization helps to minimize hand movement to ensure sharp, clear results for still and video picture-taking.

Continuous (default) - image stabilization is continuously on.

Single - image stabilization activates when the Shutter button is pressed halfway.

Off - setting is off.

Date Stamp

Imprint the date on pictures.

Choose a date option, or turn off the feature. (Default is off.)

Quickview

Change Quickview default to on or off (see Reviewing a quickview of the picture or video just taken).

Advanced Digital Zoom

Choose how digital zoom is employed.

Continuous - no pause between optical and digital zoom.

Pause - after reaching 12X optical zoom, release the zoom button, then activate it again to begin digital zoom.

None (default) - digital zoom is disabled.

Orientation Sensor

Orient pictures so that they are displayed with the correct side up.

On (default) Off On Transfer—sets Orientation Sensor on camera LCD to Off. When picture is transferred to the computer, it is rotated to the proper orientation.

Camera Sounds

Choose an overall theme or individual sounds.

Theme (default)—overall. Power On Focus Lock Shutter

Self-timer Error

Sound Volume

Turn off all sounds, or choose a volume level.

Off Low (default) Medium High

Auto Power-Off

Select when you would like the camera to turn off.

1, 3 (default), 5, or 10 minutes

Video Out

Choose the regional setting that lets you connect the camera to a television or other external device.

NTSC (default) - used in North America and Japan; most common format.

PAL - used in Europe and China.

Video Date Display

Display Date/Time at the start of video playback.

On (default) — choose from 3 date formats.

Mode Description

Display mode description at camera start-up or mode change.

On (default) Off

Print Warning

Pause (default)—when the blue slider on the zoom indicator pauses during digital zoom, release the zoom lever and reactivate it. The slider turns red when the picture may no longer render an acceptable 4 x 6 in. (10 x 15 cm) print. None—no pause.

Language Choose a language.

Reset Camera

Reset all picture-taking settings to the camera defaults.

Format

CAUTION:
Formatting deletes all pictures and videos, including those that are protected. Removing a card during formatting may damage the card.

Memory Card - deletes everything on the card; formats the card.

Cancel - exits without making a change.

Internal Memory - deletes everything in internal memory including email addresses, album names, and favorites; formats the internal memory.
