5 Troubleshooting

Picture quality problems

If... Try one or more of the following

Picture is too dark or underexposed

  • Reposition camera for more available light.

  • Use Fill flash (Changing the flash settings) or change your position so light is not behind the subject.

  • Move so that the distance between you and the subject is within the effective flash range (Using the flip-up flash ).

  • To automatically set exposure and focus, press the Shutter button halfway. When the AF/AE indicator is green, press the Shutter button completely down to take the picture.

  • Use P mode to adjust the exposure compensation (PASM modes).

Picture is too light or overexposed

  • Reposition camera to reduce the amount of available light.

  • Turn flash off (Using the flip-up flash ).

  • Move so that the distance between you and the subject is within the effective flash range (Using the flip-up flash ).

  • To automatically set exposure and focus, press the Shutter button halfway. When the AF/AE indicator is green, press the Shutter button completely down to take the picture.

  • Use P mode to adjust the exposure compensation.

Picture is not clear

  • To automatically set exposure and focus, press the Shutter button halfway. When the AF/AE indicator is green, press the Shutter button completely down to take the picture.

  • Clean the lens (Additional care and maintenance).

  • Make sure camera is not in Macro AF mode if you are more than 24 in. (61 cm) from your subject.

  • Place the camera on a flat, steady surface or use a tripod, especially in high-zoom settings or in low light.
