2 Taking pictures/videos

Using different modes

Press the Mode button, then until the LCD displays the mode that best suits your subjects and surroundings, then press OK.

Use this mode For

Smart Capture

General picture taking—it offers excellent image quality and ease of use.

  • Faces get focus and exposure priority.

  • The scene is analyzed for other content and for lighting.

You can choose the best picture size and aspect ratio for your needs—just press the Menu button and choose Picture Size.

  • 3:2 (the best choice when making 4 x 6 prints)

  • 16:9 (wide screen)

  • 4:3 (the default setting)

Program

Advanced picture taking—allows access to more manual settings than Smart Capture.

Scene

Point-and-shoot simplicity when taking pictures in practically any situation. (See Using Scene (SCN) modes.)

Video

Capturing video with sound. (See Taking a video.)

Using Scene (SCN) modes

Choose a Scene mode—for great pictures in practically any situation.

  1. Press the Mode button, then until the LCD displays SCN, then press OK.

  2. Press to highlight a mode and read its description.

  3. Press OK to enter that Scene mode.

    The camera is now in the highlighted scene mode.

SCN mode For

Portrait

Full-frame portraits of people.

Panorama L-R, R-L

"Stitching" 2 or 3 pictures into 1 panoramic scene. (See Taking panoramic pictures.)

Blur Reduction

Reducing blur caused by camera shake or subject motion.

Sport

Action pictures.

Landscape

Distant scenes.

Close-up

Close range. Use available light instead of flash, if possible.

Night Portrait

Reduces red eye of people in night scenes or low-light conditions.

Night Landscape

Distant scenery at night. Flash does not fire.

High ISO

People indoors, in low-light scenes.

Flower

Close-ups of flowers or other small subjects in bright light.

Sunset

Subjects at dusk or dawn.

Backlight

Subjects that are in shadow or "backlit."

Candle Light

Subjects illuminated by candle light.

Children

Action pictures of children in bright light.

Manner/ Museum

Quiet occasions, like a wedding or lecture. Flash and sound are disabled. For best results, place the camera on a steady surface or tripod.

Beach

Bright beach scenes.

Snow

Bright snow scenes.

Text

Documents. For best results, place the camera on a steady surface or tripod.

Fireworks

Fireworks. For best results, place the camera on a steady surface or tripod.

Self-Portrait

Close-ups of yourself. Assures proper focus and minimizes red eye.

Panning Shot

Emphasizing motion, with a sharp subject and blurred background. (For best results, track the moving subject while taking the picture.)
