9 Faxing

Preparing a fax for transmission

Before you send a fax, prepare a cover page (if needed), load the original(s), and change the resolution and brightness (if needed).

Printing a fax cover page

If you need a fax cover page, you can print one with your printer, then manually complete the information (person to whom you are sending, fax number, your name, etc).

To print a fax cover page:

  1. Press .

  2. Touch , then touch Fax.

  3. Touch Fax Settings, touch , then touch Print Fax Cover Page.

  4. Load letter or A4 paper, then press .

Loading originals for faxing

To fax documents (up to 35 pages) that are on plain paper, load the original(s) face up in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

IMPORTANT: The ADF accepts plain paper originals from 6.9 to 8.5 in. (18 to 22 cm) wide and 9.8 to 14 in. (25 to 36 cm) long.

To fax a photo, documents on thick or thin paper, or a document that is too small or too large to fit in the ADF, place the original face down on the scanner glass. You can fax only one page at a time from the scanner glass.

Changing resolution, brightness, and color mode

Before sending a fax, change the resolution, brightness and color settings, as needed, based on your original.

To modify settings before sending a fax:

  1. Press .

  2. Touch , then touch Fax.

  3. Touch Fax, then touch Options.

  4. Touch the option you would like to change:

Fax Option Setting Description

Resolution

Standard (default)

Fine

Photo

The resolution setting determines the amount of detail that is transmitted. Standard is the default for most documents. Use Fine for documents with fine print. Use Photo for photos.

Lighter/Darker

Normal (default) - 3 to +3

Adjust the brightness setting according to the brightness of your original. Normal is no change from the original; - 3 is the darkest; +3 is the lightest.

Color Mode

Black & White (default)

Color

The color mode determines if your fax is sent in black and white or color.

If the receiver's fax machine is not set up to print color, the fax will print in black and white.

Save as Defaults

No / Yes

To save settings as the new default, touch Yes.
