Using the Flash

When you take pictures at night, indoors, or outdoors in heavy shadows, your use the flash. The camera flash is effective when you are 2.5 to 8.2 feet (0.75 to 2.5 m) from your subject.

Press the button repeatedly to scroll through the flash options.

The flash icon that is displayed on the LCD Status Bar (Checking Camera Status) is the active option.

Auto Flash—flash fires when the lighting conditions require it.

Off—flash never fires.

Fill—flash fires every time you take a picture, regardless of the lighting conditions.

Night Shot—flash fires every time you take a picture, regardless of the lighting conditions. In dark scenes, the shutter speed is set to 1/2 second to capture close and background subjects.

Red-eye—flash fires once so the subject's eyes become accustomed to the flash, then fires again when the picture is taken. The Red-eye option remains in effect until you change it.

NOTE: All flash options (except Red-eye) revert to Auto when the camera is turned off.
