Camera Status and Messages

Camera Viewfinder Light
Light Status Cause Solution

Viewfinder light blinks red.

Error state.

See LCD screen message.

Viewfinder light glows steady red.

Card is full.

Transfer pictures to your computer (Transferring Your Pictures), delete pictures from the card (Deleting Pictures), or insert a card with available memory.

No card in camera.

Insert a card with available memory.

Viewfinder light blinks yellow.

Insufficient buffer memory.

Wait. Resume picture taking when the light goes off.

Viewfinder light blinks green.

Auto-exposure or auto-focus is not locked.

Release the Shutter button and recompose the picture.

Camera Card Access Light
Light Status Cause Solution

Card access light blinks green.

Picture is being processed and saved to the card.

Wait. Resume picture taking when the light stops blinking.

Do not remove the card or turn off the camera while the light is blinking.

LCD Messages
Message Cause Solution

Memory card requires formatting

The card is corrupted, or formatted for another digital camera.

Insert a new card or format the card (Formatting a COMPACTFLASH Card).

Card cannot be read (Format card or insert another card)

Camera cannot read picture file

The camera cannot read the picture format.

Transfer the unreadable picture to the computer (Transferring Your Pictures), or delete the picture (Deleting Pictures).

Unrecognized file format

Camera needs service #xxx

A camera error has occurred.

Turn the camera off, then back on. If the error message is still displayed, call for service (Telephone Customer Support).

Memory Card is full

There is no more space on the card.

Delete pictures (Deleting Pictures) or insert a new card.

Date/Time entry screen appears automatically

This is the first time you turned on the camera; batteries have been removed for an extended time; or the batteries are exhausted.

Reset the clock (Setting the Clock).
