Troubleshooting—Camera

MMC/SD Card
Problem Cause Solution

The camera does not recognize your MMC/SD Card.

The card may be corrupt.

Reformat the card (Formatting Memory or MMC/SD Card).

Caution: Formatting deletes all pictures from the card.

No card is inserted in camera.

Insert a card.

Data on the SD card is encrypted.

Decrypt the card using your computer or use another card.

The SD card is locked internally.

Unlock the card using your computer or use another card.

An MMC card holds only 5 seconds of video in Best mode.

The write speed of some older cards is not adequate.

Replace the card or use internal memory.

The camera freezes up when a card is inserted or removed.

Camera detects an error.

Turn the camera off, then back on. Make sure the camera is off when inserting or removing a card.

Camera Communications
Problem Cause Solution

Pictures and videos are not transferred from the camera to the computer.

There is a problem with the configuration of the USB port on your computer.

Some Advanced Power Management utilities on laptops can turn off ports to save battery life.

See the Power Management section of your laptop user's guide to disable this feature.

The USB cable is not securely connected.

Connect the cable to the Camera Dock and computer ports (Connecting the Dock).

Software is not installed.

Install the software (MACINTOSH OS X Notice).

Too many applications are running on your computer.

Disconnect the Camera Dock. Close all software applications, reconnect the Camera Dock, and try again.

The Battery Monitor or similar software runs constantly.

Close that software before starting the KODAK Software.

Camera
Problem Cause Solution

The Shutter button does not work.

The camera is not turned on.

Turn on the camera (Turning the Camera On and Off).

The camera is processing a picture; the ready light is blinking.

Wait until the light stops blinking before attempting to take another picture.

The card or internal memory is full.

Transfer pictures to your computer (Transferring Pictures and Videos), delete pictures from the camera (Deleting Pictures and Videos), switch storage locations (Choosing Internal Memory or MMC/SD Card), or insert a card with available memory.

Mode dial is not in the Still or Video position.

Turn Mode dial to the Still or Video position.

Part of the picture is missing.

Something was blocking the lens when the picture was taken.

Keep hands, fingers, or other objects away from the lens when taking pictures.

Your eye or the picture was not centered correctly in the viewfinder.

Leave space around subject when centering picture in viewfinder or use the LCD.

In Review mode, you do not see a picture on the LCD or do not see the picture you expected.

The camera may not be accessing the correct storage location.

Check the picture storage location setting (Choosing Internal Memory or MMC/SD Card).

A picture is too dark.

The flash is not on or did not function.

Turn on the flash (Using the Flash).

The subject is too far away for the flash to have an effect.

Move so there is no more than 8.2 feet (2.5 m) between the camera and the subject.

The subject is in front of a bright light (backlit).

Change your position so the light is not behind the subject or use Fill flash.

The camera does not turn on.

The battery is not properly installed.

Remove and reinstall the battery (Loading the Camera Battery).

The battery is not charged.

Recharge the battery (Charging the Battery).

A picture is too light.

The flash is not needed.

Change to Auto Flash (Using the Flash).

The subject was too close when the flash was used.

Move so there is at least 2.6 feet (0.8 m) between the camera and the subject.

Stored pictures are damaged.

The card was removed when the ready light was blinking.

Make sure the ready light is not blinking before removing the card.

The Pictures Remaining number does not decrease after taking a picture.

The picture does not take up sufficient space to decrease the picture remaining number.

The camera is operating normally. Continue taking pictures.

A picture is not clear.

The lens is dirty.

Clean the lens (Tips, Safety, Maintenance).

The subject was too close when taking picture.

Move so there is at least 2.6 feet (0.8 m) between the camera and the subject.

The subject or the camera moved while the picture was taken.

Hold the camera steady while taking the picture.

The subject was too far away for the flash to be effective.

Move so there is no more than 8.2 feet (2.5 m) between the camera and the subject.

Flash mode is set to Off or Night Shot.

When using these modes, use tripod (or change to Auto flash mode).

A slide show does not run on external video device.

The Video Out setting is incorrect.

Adjust the camera Video Out setting (NTSC or PAL, Setting Video Out).

The external device is set incorrectly.

Refer to the external device's user's guide.

Video sound does not play in Review mode.

The camera does not have a speaker.

When the video is transferred to a computer or connected to a television, audio accompanies the video.

A slide show does not run on LCD screen.

The camera may not be accessing the correct storage location.

Check the picture storage location setting (Choosing Internal Memory or MMC/SD Card).

Camera Ready Light The ready light glows steady green when the camera is on and ready to take a picture.
Problem Cause Solution

The Ready light does not turn on and the camera does not work.

The camera is not turned on.

Turn on the camera (Turning the Camera On and Off).

The battery is exhausted.

Recharge the battery (Loading the Camera Battery).

The Ready light blinks red.

The battery is low.

Recharge the battery (Loading the Camera Battery).

The Ready light glows steady red.

The camera's internal memory or card is full.

Transfer pictures to your computer (Transferring Pictures and Videos), delete pictures from the camera (Deleting Pictures and Videos), switch storage locations (Choosing Internal Memory or MMC/SD Card), or insert a card with available memory.

The Ready light blinks green.

A picture is being processed and saved to the camera.

Wait. Resume picture taking when the light stops blinking.

The Ready light blinks yellow.

The flash is not charged.

Wait. Resume picture taking when the light stops blinking and turns green.

Auto Exposure is not locked.

Release the Shutter button and recompose the picture.

LCD Messages
Message Cause Solution

No images to display

No pictures are in the current storage location.

Change your picture storage location setting (Choosing Internal Memory or MMC/SD Card).

Memory card requires formatting

The card is corrupted, or formatted for another digital camera.

Insert a new card (Inserting an MMC/SD Card)or format the card (Formatting Memory or MMC/SD Card).

Memory card cannot be read (Please format the card or insert another card)

Internal memory requires formatting

The camera's internal memory is corrupted.

Format the internal memory (Formatting Memory or MMC/SD Card).

Internal memory cannot be read (Please format internal memory)

No memory card, Files not copied

There is no card in the camera. Your pictures were not copied.

Insert a card (Inserting an MMC/SD Card).

Not enough space to copy files

There is not enough space in the location you are copying to (internal memory or the card).

Delete pictures from the location you are copying to (Deleting Pictures and Videos), or insert a new card.

Date/Time entry screen appears automatically

This is the first time you turned on the camera; or the battery has been removed for an extended period of time; or the battery is exhausted.

Reset the clock (Setting the Clock).

Camera may need service #xxx

A camera error has occurred.

Turn off the camera, then turn it back on. If the error message is still displayed, call for service (Telephone Customer Support).

High camera temperature. Camera will be turned off.

The internal temperature of the camera is too high for the camera to operate. The ready light glows red and the camera will turn off in five seconds.

Leave the camera off for several minutes, then turn it back on.

If the message reappears, repeat the sequence above until the message does not appear.

Memory card is full

There is no more space on the card in the camera.

Delete pictures from the card (Deleting Pictures and Videos), insert a new card, or change storage location to internal memory (Choosing Internal Memory or MMC/SD Card).

Internal memory is full

There is no more space on the camera's internal memory.

Delete pictures from the internal memory (Deleting Pictures and Videos) or change storage location to Auto and insert card (Choosing Internal Memory or MMC/SD Card).

Unrecognized file format

The camera cannot read the picture format.

Transfer the unreadable picture to the computer (Transferring Pictures and Videos), or delete the picture (Deleting Pictures and Videos).

Card is write protected internally

Access lock was added using software.

Use software to remove lock; cannot be removed by the camera.

Card is locked. (Insert new card.)

Card is protected. (Reset switch on card.)

Lock switch on side of card is in Locked position.

Slide lock switch to remove write protection.

Card is unusable. (Insert new card.)

Card voltage must range between 3.0 and 3.6 volts.

Replace the card.
